A great week for teams in red when games are settled by penalty kicks:
Arsenal (Red) over Manchester United (Black)
Pershing (Red) over Catholic (Green)
Liverpool (Red) over AC Milan (White)
In case you missed it, you should read my previous post on research regarding the success of teams wearing red.

The Pershing Girls Varsity defeated Catholic 3-2 on penalty kicks to claim the Middle School Championship with a perfect 9-0 record. The score was 1-1 at the end of regulation. Pershing scored with two minutes left in in the second overtime, but then conceded the equalizer with about 20 seconds left in the game. Pershing won the penalty kick shootout, 3-1.
Goals: Lindsey Sprouse (1), Emily Jordan (1).
Penalty Kicks: Jeni Frewin (1), Emily Jordan (1), Emily Cline (1).
The Pershing boys and girls soccer teams completed their first “double” in school history–winning both championships in the same school year–and they did so with an impressive 19-0 record.
The Varsity stats page, which is apparently unlinked on this site, is online if you are interested.

A new study shows athletes in red have more success!
I certainly hope they have more success than those wearing maroon, purple, and various shades of green.
Update: I’m certain that all of the serious science scholars, like Jeni, will want to see the news release from Nature magazine. I am trying to track down the original article.
During my 5 years with Pershing Soccer, we have never won a championship wearing my favorite all black kit. Apparently, research has demonstrated the negative effect of black uniforms.
