Wonkiness
June 26th, 2007 — General Information
Things may appear a bit wonky for awhile. The Pershing Soccer site has been moved to Glendale Soccer’s webhosting account. I was able to export and import the old database, but some special characters and formatting did not transfer well.
I will be working on updating and tweaking the site as time permits during the summer. If you spot any major problems please email the webmaster.
Pershing Soccer Website Redesign
April 2nd, 2006 — General Information
Welcome to the redesigned Pershing Soccer website. The site is being transitioned from a hand-coded site to a site that usesthe WordPress blogging and content management system. I am still trying to iron out some of the display issues (e.g. photos), but I wanted to get the site moved so that Dr. Cook could edit the site without needing help for the everyday announcements.
Coach Newton Memorial
February 27th, 2006 — General Information
Today’s News-Leader has a story about the passing of Coach Newton. The article mentions plans for a fundraiser to purchase a new trophy case to honor his memory:
A fundraiser to create a memorial for Pershing teacher and coach Alan Newton, who died last week, will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at McAlister’s Deli, 210 W. Sunshine St.
The deli will donate 20 percent of the proceeds and 100 percent of the tips during that time period. Students will use the money to build a display case in memory of Newton.
I would encourage those involved with Pershing Soccer to support this fundraiser. Coach Newton was supportive of the soccer program and our players.
Wear Red!, Part 2
May 25th, 2005 — General Information
A great week for teams in red when games are settled by penalty kicks:
Arsenal (Red) over Manchester United (Black)
Pershing (Red) over Catholic (Green)
Liverpool (Red) over AC Milan (White)
In case you missed it, you should read my previous post on research regarding the success of teams wearing red.
Wear Red!
May 19th, 2005 — General Information
A new study shows athletes in red have more success!
I certainly hope they have more success than those wearing maroon, purple, and various shades of green.
Update: I’m certain that all of the serious science scholars, like Jeni, will want to see the news release from Nature magazine. I am trying to track down the original article.
During my 5 years with Pershing Soccer, we have never won a championship wearing my favorite all black kit. Apparently, research has demonstrated the negative effect of black uniforms.
